What is FiliMotion?

FiliMotion is a website dedicated to archiving information about existing Philippine produced animated films and series. This website also aims to spread more awareness about locally produced animation, as it lacks recognition compared to international animation. Coined from the words “Filipino” and “motion,” the name “FiliMotion encapsulates the frame-by-frame movement in animation. Its name also emphasizes progress and moving forward in the local animation industry.

Conceptualization of the Website

The idea of FiliMotion originally came from a high school project by a group of visual arts students from St. Scholastica’s College, Manila under the name AniWeb. Majority of the content here in FiliMotion is reused from the AniWeb prototype, with the addition of the pages for The Nutshack and Barangay 143. With this, FiliMotion serves as a revised version of AniWeb, functioning as an active website that can be accessed.

Aim of the Website

Many early Philippine animations have become lost media due to a lack of proper documentation, and incomplete information. Given this, the objective of FiliMotion is to serve as an accessible and comprehensive platform for Philippine animation, in regards to its history and currently existing films and series. Furthermore, FiliMotion also functions as an archive for available information about Philippine animation.
