Dayo is the first digitally animated film in the Philippines. The movie has also been dubbed in English, and is alternatively titled "Niko: The Journey to Magika." Dayo is also the winner in Best Musical Score, Best Sound, Best Theme Song, and Best Visual Effects in the 2008 Metro Manila Film Festival. Additionally, the film has also won the Star Award for Cinematic Excellence in Filipino Animation, and the Golden Screen Award for Best Visual Effects, Best Motion Picture (Animation), and Best Original Song in 2009.

A subtle detail in the movie is that all the human characters have five fingers, while all the mythical creatures only have four. This adds to the Elementalia’s fairy tale-like nature, and emphasizes that it’s a separate reality from the real world.
